CHGA Report Uses GAIN Research

June 9th, 2008

The UN Commission for HIV/AIDS and Governance in Africa today launched its 2008 final report, ‘Securing our Future’ which was presented to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in Addis Ababa this morning. The report concludes that the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa will have serious implications for governance unless “decisive actions deepen the commitment and leadership in the fight against the pandemic” (The Commissioner’s Statement p.3).

The report, in a chapter on Governance and Development, draws on a lot of research undertaken by GAIN in 2007 on HIV/AIDS and policing in South Africa and Benin; as well as on HIV/AIDS and democracy in South Africa and Kenya.
