Supporting Civil Society in Election & Referendum Related Activities

The elections in Sudan represented an unparalleled opportunity for Sudanese citizens to exercise their democratic rights. Justice Africa proposed to facilitate civil society’s role in election-related activities through a process of consultation and technical support/capacity building. To this end, Justice Africa and partners proposed to:

(a) Organise a conference bringing Sudanese CSOs together to discuss and identify their role in the elections and referendum, create a strategic plan for them to coordinate these activities and identify their main needs for support. Special attention will be give to CSOs who are based outside the capital cities in more remote states

(b) Provide capacity building to CSOs on election related activities as identified in the conference, from pre-election publicity and organization, registration of voters and voter education, to Election Day conduct and vote counting.

(c) Provide capacity building and technical support to assist CSOs to obtain funding for their priority activities from donors.

(d) Issue a Monthly Briefing and Monthly Media Briefing which reports on the progress of the project to inform the Sudanese public, and at the same, time give a thorough analysis of the situation in Sudan.
